This rhyton, shaped as a female’s head, is one of the two identical rhytons shaped as a female’s head. The rhyton woman’s neck is long and bare, but widen downward into the base of the vessel, and bears an incised necklace with pendants. The central pendant of the necklace is shaped as a lion’s head medallion with opening in the mouth. The handle of the rhyton ends upwards into sphinx’ body. The sphinx’ wings of one of the two identical rhytons (with female’s head) have been cut off and are missing from the original. In two of the identical rhytons the elaborate hair-cuts are covered with veils, which gather the hair on the neck, decorated with wave-like bands, small stars and dots.
The technique used for this replica rhyton is called “galvanoplastic”, which allows an exact replica to be made, but with a much lighter material. Our team of designers creates a precise carving on a silicone mold in which we pour wax. The wax takes the form of the object, which after that we cover with metal through galvanoplasty process, and finish it with gold cover.
